Text and Data Mining (TDM) Policy

Policy governing automated access, text and data mining, and machine learning model training.

Policy notice

Reading open, training reserved. The publicly available content of this website may be read and indexed by automated systems. Use of that content to train machine-learning models is reserved: that use requires prior permission.

This notice is our site's own declaration about our content. It is not legal advice, and it does not describe what any particular automated system may lawfully do — that is decided by the applicable law and by each system's operator.

What TDM-Rep is

TDM-Rep — the W3C Text and Data Mining Reservation Protocol — is a machine-readable way for a website to declare that automated text and data mining is reserved. A site expresses the reservation as an HTTP response header or an HTML meta element, and the declaration can point at a reservation document that states the reservation's terms.

How the Generative Metrics audit handles TDM-Rep

The audit reads site-declared TDM-Rep reservations exactly as declared: it records the TDM reservation headers captured in the audited responses, checks whether a referenced reservation document parses under the declared convention, and reports a reservation document that does not parse — because a reservation a machine cannot read may be treated as if no reservation was made.

Declarations are recorded as observations; the audit does not infer a defect from an absent declaration, and opt-out signals are never a verdict input.

The full inventory of what the audit records, including the opt-out observation layer, is on the observation inventory page.
